FREE EVENT: Are you or your kids planning on registering for the Hillsborough Hop or your first 5K Race? Well, !MPACT Training would like to give you a few pointers. Come to our FREE event on Sunday, March 23rd, at 1:00 p.m. Please register for this FREE event so we have enough handouts, and this event is for adults and kids (7+). Email: [email protected]. We will spend one hour learning how to warm-up properly, in addition to running with good form, and stretching for success. Nutrition handouts will help you understand how to fuel for optimal performance. We’ll even go out for a little dry run around the grounds of our facility (weather permitting). If the weather isn’t cooperative, we’ll spend more time indoors working on running form and will do indoor drills on our 20-yard turf area. We are approaching our spring/summer running and race season, so it is important (especially for those who are not regular runners) to start training for these events, even if they are short races. And just a reminder that Steps Together (our favorite local charity) will be putting together a team again this year for the annual Steeplechase Walk/Run in Hillsborough. This year it will take place on Sunday, September 28th so you can start training for the Hillsborough Hop at the end of May and train right through the summer! Steps Together also meets on Saturdays at 8:30 a.m. (kicking off in July) so that the team can train together (kids and adults). All you have to do is register for the their team, and you will receive weekly emails with training tips, in addition to where they are meeting for a walk/run. 21-DAY BEACH BODY PROGRAM ROLLS OUT ON Thursday, March 20th (1st day of SPRING!) at 7:30 p.m.: We introduced this program last spring, and our clients had amazing results. They lost multiple inches and several pounds in just 21 days! So we are running it again since we have LOTS of new clients who might want to give it a try. For those who are signing up for the 21-Day Beach Body Challenge, I am offering a FREE 60-minute workshop (March 20th at 7:30 p.m.) that will break down the diet in detail to help you understand how it works – in addition to getting a brief weight-loss nutrition lecture that will help you long after this 21-Day Beach Body Challenge is over. I will also share some food samples/recipes from the diet at this workshop – and there is a question and answer period at the end so you will be ready to go. You can still participate in the 21-day challenge, even if you can’t make the kick-off meeting and lecture on March 20th . . . but the meeting is a great way to gain motivation if you are able to make it. Now couple this amazing diet plan with 21 days of training, and you will be READY TO SUCCEED! You will get weighed AND measured at the start of the challenge and again at the end of the 21 days! We offer a discounted rate for those who are presently doing Unlimited Group Training – and we also offer a package for new clients that includes the diet plan, along with group training during the 21 days. TESTING IT OUT . . . SUNDAY TRAINING AT !MPACT. . . Right now we offer training on Sundays at noon for kids (ages 9-14) which includes speed, agility, strength & conditioning. Well, not only are we “thinking” about adding a Group Training session on Sunday mornings at 7:30 a.m. (for adults and teens 15+), but we are testing it out to see what kind of response we get . . . Please come on Sunday, March 16th at 7:30 a.m. It is only $20 to drop-in to one of our training sessions led by a Personal Trainer, and it is FREE for those who are already paying for Unlimited Training. This training session will be led by trainer, John Balle´and we are calling it Heavy Metal Madness . . . It’s just a fun name for a group training session that will be a combination of weight training (metal), mixed with some intervals of cardio (madness) with the tunes rolling! Remember, ALL of our group training sessions offer variations to every exercise so it is suitable for all fitness levels. We have some clients who are 58 years old and others who are 18! Just come and do what you are able – we will guide you through it.
SKINNY WRAPS COMING TO !MPACT ON March 24th: Reserve your appointment now to detox and get ready for the SPRING! Do you wanna get wrapped? . . . Melissa will be here on Monday, March 24th, from 6:00 p.m. till 8:30 p.m. The cost is only $30 per wrap (maximum of 2 wraps per application – and payment would be due on the day you come for your wrap – cash and checks accepted – made payable to Melissa Rice). SUMMER CAMPS! It’s that time of year again, where parents want to know what camps are available for their kids this summer! Back by popular demand . . .
Fit & Fun Camp (for children ages 7-13): They will have a blast participating in a fun fitness circuit, having relay races, playing kickball, dodgeball and more! Kids are broken up into age appropriate groups for training. Camp operates Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon the week of July 7th and the week of July 14th. Space is limited and every year we sell out fast. So reserve your place now! Camp is only $125 per child/per week if you register by March 31st ($135 after 3/31), and we offer a $10 discount for siblings.
We are also offering Sports Performance Camp from 9:00:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon during the week of July 21st. There will be two age groups that week (Group 1: Ages 8-12 — and Group 2: Ages 13-17). Twelve-year olds can be evaluated to see if they are more advanced in their abilities and should move to the older age group for maximum benefit. Give your child or teen that competitive edge . . . We test the kids in a variety of areas (vertical jump, broad jump, 40 yd. dash, shuttle drills and more) and our trainers and coaches show them how much they can improve their test scores in just one week of camp! Camp is only $165 per child/per week if you register by March 31st ($175 after 3/31), and we offer a $10 discount for siblings.
AWESOME RECIPE . . . Thanks, Dorothy!
I received a small mason jar filled with a delicious home-made granola to put on top of my yogurt, and I just had to share the recipe, since it is NOT a traditional recipe. Instead of it being just loaded with carbs and sugars, this recipe uses quinoa, which is a grain that contains protein. You can find quinoa at your local Shop-Rite – in the organic/healthy section. See recipe and instructions below:
Crunchy Quinoa Granola
Ingredients: Makes 4 cups
2 cups of old fashioned oats
½ cook quinoa (uncooked), rinsed
1 cup of sliced almonds (or any other nut)
2 Tablespoons flax seeds (also found in the organic/healthy section)
¼ teaspoon cinnamon
Dash of salt
¼ cup honey
2 Tablespoons coconut oil, melted (also found in the organic/healthy section)
½ cup raisins
½ cup dried cranberries
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 325 degrees – then line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine all ingredients except raisins and cranberries in a large bowl – then stir
- Spread mixture on prepared baking sheet then bake for 15-20 minutes, stirring halfway through or until golden brown.
- TIP: Watch closely at the end to make sure granola does not get too dark. Granola will not be crunchy right out of the oven. Stir in raisins and cranberries when granola is cool and crunchy – then store in an air-tight container. ENJOY!
PAYING-IT-FORWARD
Just wanted to thank our clients, friends and family for helping us to pay-it-forward. Through our Superbowl Pool for Brave Billy (Steps-Together beneficiary), we were able to raise $500 . . . and through donations from our bootcamp for Billy on Superbowl Sunday, we raised an additional $1,275. We also had a super generous friend drop off a check for Steps Together for $1,000. Many Thanks to the Vinchur Family from Hillsborough for their generous donation! We knew that owning a business in town would provide a platform for doing good . . . people who were looking to DO GOOD would find us and help us make a difference. Love being part of this amazing community!
Upcoming Pay-It-Forward Event: I attended my first Steps Together board meeting a week ago, and felt so great to brainstorm with Courtney & Mike Newman (founders of www.Steps-Together.com), along with the other board members – -to come up with ways to raise money for the local families (Steps Together beneficiaries) who are going through medical crisis. At this board meeting I learned of an amazing upcoming fundraiser spear-headed by one of the other board members, Jen Korab (owner of Renaissance Salon in Hillsborough). Mark your calendars for “Renaissance Runs the Runway” . . . Thursday, May 1st, 2014 – 6:30 – 11:00 p.m. at the Bridgewater Manner. Come out for a night of fun . . . A fashion show with clothing from local boutiques, and hair & make-up by none other than Jen and her team at Renaissance Salon. Remember the proceeds will be going to a great charity . . . Tickets are $100 per person AND include a beautiful dinner, drinks, the fashion show and basket auction! If you are interested in purchasing tickets, just let me know. We just helped three Girl Scout troops get their “Practice with a Purpose” badge, and a group of boy scouts earn their Fitness Badge. GREAT TURNOUT FOR OUR FREE SEMINAR: We held a FREE seminar on Saturday, February 22nd, for teens, parents or any adult who was interested in learning about proper nutrition to reach their goals – along with a lecture by Mark Nagel of Belle Mead Physical Therapy about Injury Prevention and How to Deal with Injuries. Lunch was provided by Tender Lovin Grill (corner of Amwell and Rt. 206) . . . This was a great way for us to Pay-It-Forward, giving our community helpful information about how to get into great shape – safely and effectively!
