My Dedication to Poppy: I wanted to dedicate my February Newsletter to my dad who passed away on January 4, 2016. My dad was an amazing man. Anyone that knew my dad, knew he was a character. He was great dad who had no trouble telling it like it was haha! My dad worked for Prudential for most of his career as an Operating Engineer (local 68), was a 4th Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, served in the Korean War on the U.S.S. Knapp, and was a Tin Can Sailor. He also was part of the Galloping Hill Cruisers, where he would enter car shows with his fully restored 1965 Ford Galaxy 500 Convertible, and he won a few awards for this awesome car. I know I got my love for muscle cars from him. He and my mom retired several years ago and sold their home in Union, NJ and moved to their shore house in Surf City (Long Beach Island). We love that shore house and my siblings and I will continue the legacy of the “McGovern Sandcastle” by renting out both floors to families during the summer months just as my parents use to. And we will be sure to save some weekends like Memorial Day Weekend for our own family fun. With regards to my dad’s health . . . Unfortunately, he was always working so many hours and his generation didn’t take very good care of themselves. As he aged he had a whole host of health issues from diabetes, high blood pressure/heart issues, and poor lung capacity from asbestos exposure while serving in the navy. I wish so badly that I could have just fixed him and made him better. He left this earth just 19 days before his 81st birthday. I think he secretly planned to spend his birthday with my mom in heaven who passed 3 years ago, as he missed her so much after 54 years of marriage. My dad taught me so much about life . . . I probably should have listened to him more often . . . He was a really hard worker, as was my mom, and he was really good with money and finances. I attribute my good work ethics to both of them. I know both of my parents are proud of everything we do here at !MPACT Training, as they would often tell me so. Rest in peace, Poppy & give Mom a kiss from us . . . Your five kids and all your grandchildren miss you so much!

GO RED FOR WOMEN! Just a reminder to wear something RED on Friday, February 5, 2016 for National Wear Red Day. This is a special day the American Heart Association started to create awareness. Why Go Red? Heart disease and stroke cause 1 in 3 deaths among women each year (more than cancer!), killing approximately one woman every 80 seconds. WELCOME TO THE !MPACT TEAM, STEVE STROUP! Steve (pictured above) is an awesome, energetic certified personal trainer who joined our !MPACT team last month. He is a Hillsborough resident and former Hillsborough Jr. Raider, as well as graduate of Hillsborough High School where he played football as a quarterback and defensive end. Steve is also continuing his education to achieve his bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, and will be graduating in May. He also has plans to attain his teaching certification to work with high school students as a gym teacher. He’s got a great passion for fitness, and we are super excited to have him on our team. Welcome aboard, pal!

!MPACT TRAINING HOSTS TRAINING EVENT FOR FLAGTOWN FIRE & RESCUE: We are always trying to think of ways to pay it forward . . . So it gave us great pleasure to host a free training event for those who serve our community on a regular basis. On January 28th, 2016 Flagtown Fire came to !MPACT to complete their annual SCBA Confidence and Air Management Drill. These men and women participated in a 12 station/60 second circuit while in complete turn-out gear and on air. They were instructed to record their time when their vib alert went off so they were able to gauge their air consumption based on their work pace. These stations simulated lifting, pulling, dragging and core exercises that firefighters use on every call. No joke, their turn-out gear weighs about 70 pounds, so imagine pushing a weighted sled, slamming medicine balls, hold a plank or using weight ropes wearing all that extra weight. It was actually quite surreal for my husband, Michael, and I to run these fine young men and women through the circuit, knowing how important it is that they condition their bodies on a regular basis so they are ready for that next 911/fire call. After the circuit was done, the firefighters played a few friendly games of dodgeball . . . and YES, they were still wearing ALL their gear. Super impressed with these guys and gals, and we were so happy to be a part of their annual training. We would love to host it again whenever they are ready to come back!! WE DO TURF RENTALS!: We are starting to get quite a few requests from teams to rent our spacious indoor turf field . . . It’s the perfect space for athletes and sports teams to do their indoor training. In our 4800 sq. ft. facility we offer a 20 x 18 yard turf area that has a state-of-the-art plyometric cushioning beneath the turf, in addition to high ceilings — so we are able to offer athletes & teams a safe and spacious area to train or practice. This is also perfect for teams who need to do an indoor “walk-thru” practice or any other kind of team-building event or get-together (i.e. end-of-season parties). Rates are extremely reasonable. KIDS TRAINING ON SATURDAYS AT 10:00 A.M.: This is a great session for boys and girls (ages 7-12) where we work on speed, agility, balance, quickness, coordination and most of all, confidence. The kids perform an age-appropriate circuit using lots of great equipment, and we also add relay races or individual timed drills so the kids have an awesome time. These sessions last 45 minutes and are guided and coached by one of our certified trainers. You can drop-in to any one of these sessions without a reserved place by paying the $15 drop-in rate, or ask us about monthly discounts. If you have a 12-year old you think might be more advanced, give us a call and we can evaluate him/her to see if our Elite Athlete Program is better suited for their abilities (908) 428-7978.

CONGRATS TO MARIE DeCICCO – DOWN 10 pounds with her 30-Day Nutritional Cleanse! Marie was already in very good shape and takes our morning bootcamps and group weight-training sessions, but she was looking to take it to the next level. She wanted improved energy levels, a cleaner diet plan, and is loving the 10-pound weight loss. Congratulations, Marie! You did a great job, and the maintenance is easy!!

FRANK HARRIS IS ROCKIN HIS 30-DAY PROGRAM, and is also down 15 pounds by day 18. Frank and Sergio are friends, and their daughters who are soccer players train with us at !MPACT working on speed, agility and strength to enhance their performance. Frank and Sergio decided to make their health a priority so they started their program the same day and are having equally amazing results. So proud of you guys! Way to go, Frank! Keep it going!
